Workshop with Marika Rizzi-In Association with First Fortnight and Dance Ireland

January 11, 2020 @ 11:00 - 13:00

Galway Dance Project are delighted to partner with Dance Ireland, Áine Stapleton and First Fortnight to offer a workshop focused on dance and well-being to kick-start the new year. Dance Ireland is the national dance development organisation, enabling people, places, ideas, communities and genres of dance to come together – to ignite action, provoke thought and for fellowship and fun.

MARIKA RIZZI is an Italian dance artist based in Paris. In 1995 she joined the Felix Ruckert company, Berlin, and in 2007 Odile Duboc’s French company at the Choreographic National Centre of Franche Comté, Belfort.  She has worked and trained with a variety of choreographers including Steve Paxton for his video piece ‘Material for the Spine’ and Deborah Hay for ’Turn your F^*head’, Nancy Stark Smith, Lisa Nelson, Simone Forti, Andrew Morrish, Julyen Hamilton, Mike Vargas, and Vera Orlock.

In 2017, she received her Master degree certificate with highest honours at the dance department of the University Paris 8. In 2019 she performed in the film ‘Isadora’s Children’ based on Isadora Duncan, which won best director at the prestigious Locarno Film Festival. She teaches professional workshops regularly in Paris and throughout Europe and has been working with a group of young people with disabilities for the past few years. Her workshops combine improvisation and composition, integrated with energetic principles from Chinese Traditional Medicine.

The workshop is open to all and will be hosted at St Nicholas’ School, Waterside in Galway.

Workshop fee: €10

All fees go directly to paying the workshop leaders.
