Contemplative Dance Practice Workshops with Bernadette Divilly
Bernadette is a Dance Artist, Somatic Psychologist and Dance Movement Psychotherapist. These workshops will celebrate Barbara Dilley’s 82th Birthday in March 2020.
Saturday 14th and 21st March 2020
Bring snacks to share, water and a cushion and blanket.
First offered in 1980 by Barbara Dilley, Contemplative Dance is now practiced in its original and adapted forms all over the world.
CDP brings together the discipline of sitting meditation with free movement investigations and the practice of improvisation. It is an opportunity to integrate outer and inner worlds, alone and together.
The practice begins with sitting meditation followed by personal awareness practice and then the group practice called “Open Space” occurs, where Deep Play unfolds! The session concludes with a closing circle for discussion and observations.
Bernadette Divilly translates CDP principles and practices to her research in Dance Movement Psychotherapy and Socially Engaged Choreography. She has written and published on this work. Bernadette is a regular member of Dance Art Lab now in it 16th season which meets at the Naropa University Boulder Co. established by Barbara 15 years ago to support building a dance art tribe around her work. She has been supported by the Arts Council of Ireland, Galway Dance Project and Galway City Council to attend. Bernadette recently interviewed Barbara about aspects of her work and that interview will be available in due course.
