Galway Dance Project was delighted to learn that two Galway based dance artists, Kristyn Fontanella Dance & Patricia Glynn Willow Dance have been awarded Arts Council Ireland Bursaries. These awards will allow these artists to interrogate and develop their practice.
Kristyn will will investigate new skills from theatre comedy practices and implement them into her choreographic practice (which incorporates two dance forms traditional Irish and Contemporary dance).

Kristyn will work with mentors, New Art Club, who she first developed the concept with through the Remote Control programme, which Galway Dance Project ran with Brú Theatre and the Town Hall Theatre. Kristyn will investigate humour within traditional Irish step dance. Kristyn presented a showing of her research on these themes during a Culture Night presentation in September, and we can’t wait to see more next year!
And Patricia will take time to reflect and further develop her choreographic practice, while also engaging in professional development with Artistic Director of Irish Modern Dance Theatre, John Scott
Patricia will also do studio research around developing a dance piece that reflects on` the texture of connection` and the threads of meaning between 3 male dancers, Leighton Morrison, Jeremie Cyr- Cooke and Mintesinot Wolde.
Galway Dance Project, along with Galway city and county councils, supported the development of this project earlier this year, and we are very happy to see it evolve.
